European Commission

The European Commission (EC) represents the interests of the European Union (EU) as a whole. It proposes new legislation to the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, and it ensures that member countries correctly apply EU law.

One of the roles of the European Commission is to promote smart, sustainable and inclusive growth throughout all industrial sectors, including service industries like tourism. In this context the policy of the Commission contributes to make Europe a more competitive, innovative and resource-efficient economy, ready to tackle today's and tomorrow's challenges.

This portal on food fairs and festivals is co-financed by the European Commission in the framework of tourism policies. The main purpose is to promote the competitiveness of the tourism sector and a wider understanding of European culture and traditions. The initiative was supported by Mr Antonio Tajani, former European Commission Vice-President and Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship.

The European Travel Commission (ETC) is an international non-profit making organisation with its headquarters in Brussels. Its members are 33 National Tourism Organisations (NTO's) of Europe. Since 1948 the ETC has been responsible for raising the awareness and interest of Destination Europe in long haul markets.

ETC’s mission is to strengthen the sustainable development of Europe as a tourist destination and to increase competitiveness through knowledge gathering and sharing of best-practises in tourism, as well as by establishing professional marketing platforms for the promotion of pan-European experiences, which are complementary to the individual marketing actions of its members.
