Description
On this day, the people of Koknese invite everyone to the local bazaar, street concerts and other all-ages events. Activities as Monk football, tug of war and ball weight lifting competitions, Nordic walking, amateur concerts and performances have become integral components of the Catfish Festival. In last year’s festival, new traditions began – the tweed (retro bike) ride and the costume parade. This extraordinary ride through the streets was made up of around 100 cyclists.
With hope for a prolific year, people make special catfish soup in a boiler on an open fire. Tradition says that those who have eaten this delicious food will have a lucky year with a lot of richness and fertility.
