General information
York Chocolate Festival is the perfect occasion to get in touch with the York chocolate tradition. While other northern centres generated their wealth from wool, cotton and steel, York went its own sweet way and built a city of chocolate. York truly is the home of chocolate and to this day this great tradition continues.
The city has a long and distinguished history in the confectionery and chocolate industry that places it as a must visit for chocolate lovers. Many of York's population have had family that once worked in the confectionery dynasties of Rowntree’s, Terry's and Craven's, and everyone has a lasting memory of their favourite chocolate bar, many of which were created in the city.
In order to celebrate this tradition, the York Chocolate Festival takes place every year and is an indulgent celebration in which York reclaims its rightful title of the Home of Chocolate. Chocolate industry and confectioners, chocolate lovers, artisan chocolatiers, museums and attractions combine in this sweet event that is, for five days, a reminder of a piece of York's history.
