This is undoubtedly the best time to taste the authentic Bulgarian Yogurt.
For foreigners, the Bulgarian yogurt is really a delicacy, but in fact in Bulgaria the yogurt is part of a lot of common dishes, like soups, salads, desserts, sauces, etc. During the festival, guests can sample genuine homemade yogurt and a lot of products made from it. The activities program includes folklore dances, exhibitions about yogurt making and a competition to find the best homemade yogurt.
Near Tran, in the village of Studen Izvor, the Yogurt Museum shows the story of Bulgarian yogurt and the secrets that make it so unique. This is the town where Dr. Stamen Grigorov lived (1878-1945) and discovered the key to Bulgarian Yogurt: the small bacterium known as Lactobacillus bulgaricus that causes milk fermentation, giving to yogurt its particular and magnificent flavor.
