General information

The best way to taste the traditional Bulgarian pastry called Banitsa is going to be in Branitsa, a small village near Vratza, and join its traditional Festival of the Banitsa. It’s celebrated every year in spring, and has been for many years.

This festival is a really good opportunity to taste the genuine traditional Bulgarian Banitsa (filled with feta cheese and eggs), and also to discover different variations (stuffed with pumpkin and sugar, cabbage with onion, spinach, rice, meat, banitsa milk…), some of them really original and unusual. Nearly a hundred kinds of mouthwatering pastries are showcased here.

Visitors to this festival can also enjoy traditional Bulgarian dances and songs, so it is the perfect place to get in touch with Bulgarian folklore and traditions.
